My research focuses on the neuromechanical adaptations occurring in response to musculoskeletal pain and rehabilitation. I am specifically interested in understanding whether and how neuromechanical impairments have a role in the onset and maintenance of pain in people with chronic musculoskeletal disorders. To study this, my group combines electrophysiological and biomechanical techniques to study human movement in people with and without musculoskeletal disorders, and with experimentally-induced pain. Some of the techniques we use include high-density electromyography, ultrasound, electrical stimulation and transcranial electrical stimulation. The long-term goal of my research is to identify key neuromechanical features that are clinically relevant for the prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders.
