Dr. Andrew Murray

Andy completed his PhD with Derryck Shewan at the University of Aberdeen, working on intracellular signalling pathways that mediate neuronal axon growth and guidance. He then went on to complete a postdoc with Peer Wulff and Bill Wisden looking at the role of parvalbumin-positive interneurons of the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex in spatial memory and developed viral tools for manipulating neural circuits.  Andy then moved to New York for a postdoc with Tom Jessell at Columbia University where he started working on the brainstem circuits for balance control and in particular the role of the lateral vestibular nucleus.

Andy established his own lab at the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre, University College London in 2016. The lab is interested in the neural circuits that underlie movement with a focus on the brainstem pathways in the mouse that mediate balance and posture.
