Daniel Benoit is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa, and Faculty member of the Ottawa Carleton Institute for Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Benoitcombines in vivo 3D analyses of human movement, electromyography, force measurement and functional assessments with advanced musculoskeletal modeling and data science techniques. As head of the Clinical Biomechanics Research Unit (CBRU), his research evaluates human participants across the lifespan while focusing on joint mechanics, motor development, mobility, human performance and pathologies that affect the aforementioned. His research goals include improving our understanding of knee joint injury and disease progression, and using evidenced-based biomechanical and neuromuscular research to improve prophylactic, orthopaedic and rehabilitation interventions. He works closely with surgeons at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario to develop evidence-based assessment and intervention methods to improve patient health in youth with knee injuries. His multidisciplinary research is funded by the Canadian Foundations for Innovation, the Province of Ontario, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, in addition to non-governmental funding sources.
